The Red Prince
The Red Prince is a major antagonist from the ELZA/NADIA comic series.
Character Summary
The Red Prince is an Envoy of K’T’A’ANG. Envoys are regarded as powerful individuals in the K’T’A’ANG society. The sole purpose of each Envoy is to become expert regarding the species they bare appearance of. K’T’A’ANG does not automatically assign an Envoy to every newly discovered species though. Only those civilizations that are deemed to be extremely dangerous, desirable or by any means interesting to the K’T’A’ANG, become eligible to be curated by an Envoy.
While “The Red Prince” is a nickname given to this individual by Nadia based on the color of his armor, the real given name or any previous identity of the Red Prince is unknown. His biological classification is also unclear, as while maintaining a human-like shape, the Red Prince remains a mostly artificial construct made of synthetic muscles and biomechanical life support systems. Still, there are minor signs that hint on the Red Prince being born as a human and becoming reshaped by K’T’A’ANG later in his life.
The personality of the Red Prince can be described most accurately as malicious and sarcastic. Seemingly endless loyalty to K’T’A’ANG and a deep superiority complex towards humanity prompt the Red Prince to commit seemingly random acts of sadism and produce a never ending flow of nihilistic jokes. These trends can also be read as a hint about the Red Prince’s fear of his own humanity that he may be perceived by him as his major shortcoming and a weakness.
Behind the Scenes
The Red Prince carries an important task of providing the K’T’A’Ang with a “human face” that is compelling for the reader. The Red Prince is a human-derivative which means that he can no longer relate to the Humanity and thereby is completely loyal to the K’T’A’Ang cause, but is there a catch?
Appearance of the Red Prince was inspired by a painting “Portrait of a Dancer” (1909) by Alexander Sacharoff (Link/wikipedia.org).
