Arachnid

Arachnid is a member of arthropod species found exclusively on the planet OGL-25. Because of the low survey status of this planet, there are not much information that can be found about arachnids. One of the most valuable sources of knowledge about this illusive species is a repost by Imperial Pilot Elza Gadar who survived a crashlanding on OGL-25 together with her commissioned officer, Commander Lubov Pyr.

Biology and the Life Cycle

Arachnids prefer to live in caves where they cultivate warm and moist environment. There is a theory that their webbing serves as as a tool for insulation and climate control inside their habitats.

When Elza have been down in the Arachnid’s lair, she have encountered multiple smaller specimen of this being and one huge “adult” Arachnid that chased her and Lubov Pyr all the way up to the surface. This observation allows us to theorize that Arachnids are either solitary creatures that use their infant offspring as workers, or are organized in hives like ants where one large “queen” is ruling over multiple smaller workers.

Arachnid’s ovipositor is emerging from its body when it is time to fill a new victim with its eggs. Arachnids reproduce uncontrollably as most of their offspring either dies or becomes expandible drones.

The fact that Lybov Pyr was not eaten after her capture, but impregnated with Arachnid’s eggs hints that they may be a parasitic species and exclusively use live prey for reproduction. Fortunately, Commander Pyr was apprehended by Elza immediately after the incident. Soon thereafter all Arachnid eggs were removed from Pyr’s body by a military medic onboard the cruiser Krodh.

No attempts were made yet to send an expedition to OGL-25 and study Arachnids further in their natural habitat.
