The True Son of the Empire

Igor Singh was a mere lieutenant of a Special Operations Naval Group when in the 1039 A.E. the Federation have performed a daring attack on Limmea and obliterated the Imperial Royal Palace in the heart of the Capitol. By being a loyal servant of the Empire, Igor was happy to go on a suicide mission and board the Avenging Might, a Federal Overlord-Class Dreadnought. Attempting to bring this gigantic ship down was the only way for Igor and his troops to avenge their beloved Royal Family. By luck, determination and his brilliant tactical prowess, Igor have managed to take full control over the Avenging Might.

When the battle over Limmea was won and the remnants of Federal forces retreated in the Subspace, an Imperial Admiral Ivan Dar proclaimed himself as the new Imperial Monarch and demanded all Imperial forces to pledge loyalty to him. Igor was one of few commanders who refused to pledge his allegiance to an usurper as he believed that someone from Khan dynasty may still have survived the attack. Retaliation from Ivan Dar was immediate and a boarding party led by the Imperial Hand was sent to the Avenging Might with an assassination order.

Unexpectedly, instead of killing him, the Imperial Hand brought Igor news that completely changed his world – according to them, Igor was one of two hidden heirs to the Imperial throne and the rightful ruler of the Empire. Led by a newfound duty to his legacy, Igor rallied the few imperial forces under his reach against the usurper and his armada. As the news of Igor’s true name, backed by the Imperial Hand were spreading across the population, more officers and troops have shifted their allegiance to his rule.

The Overlord-Class Dreadnought was crucial during the final confrontation with Ivan Dar and his loyalists. Igor Khan won the one-day-long civil war despite that there were still thousands of Federal personnel locked inside the compartments of his flagship. When the usurper was defeated, Igor adopted his true family name of Khan and was crowned to become the new Imperial Monarch.

The Unlikely Ruler

Igor Khan never felt comfortable in his role of an autocrat and was never fully recognized by the Nobles of the Imperial court. In order to build bridges, Igor have married Sofia, a heiress to a prominent Noble family and allowed her to take over the internal affairs while he was focusing on winning the war against the Federation.

In order to maintain his grip on power, Igor Khan have introduced plenty of his former comrades from the Imperial Navy and INI to the court. Their loyalty to him was impeccable, but most of them completely lacked competence in civilian governance which resulted in endless conflicts with Noble elites and Sofia. Igor’s rule have led to unprecedented strengthening of the intelligence services and bloat of military industrial complex coupled with dangerous neglect of economical management as dozens of Imperial worlds came on the brink of famine.

One of these worlds was Zirkon – uprising of shipbuilders led to demise of Sofia Khan and Alec Khan, Igor’s beloved son. His remaining daughter, Khadijah had to rapidly grow into an Imperial ruler herself in order to support her father as he was grieving over their loss. As years went by, Khadijah completely replaced her mother by Igor’s side but the damage was already done – previous mismanagement and violent suppression of the uprisings led the Empire into a fall towards the chaos.

Realization of the damage that he has done on his own people and his inability to shift away from the well-paved course made Igor feel trapped and helpless. His only aspiration became to abdicate in the perfect moment and let his much more competent daughter, Khadijah to pave the way into the better future for all Imperials.
